Overview

The most typical type of hybrid ceramics is Spanish-style forms composed in indigenous paste. The most common indigenous type in Peten adapted in this way is Ixkamik Unslipped (depicted above), which is also used to produce ceramics in local forms. One should note that tin enameled wares produced in the Americas could also be classified as hybrid wares. We do not class them in this way in Peten as they were imported, likely from the Guatemalan highlands.
