Overview
Zacpeten is located on a peninsula in Lake Salpeten, the lake immediately east of Lake Peten Itza. The site has an extensive defensive system on its northern end. Settlement is densely concentrated around five high points in the terrain. Two of the high points (Group A and Group C) contain Late Postclassic ceremonial groups. Two others (Group D and Group E) include Late Postclassic residential groups. Group B contains a Late/Terminal Classic ceremonial group that is surrounded by Late Postclassic residential groups.
